ITC and rap music? ITC typefaces were featured in recent issues of VIBE magazine and XXL, a new magazine devoted to hip hop artists. In VIBE, magazine designers turned to ITC Stone Informal for the issue’s cover and interior headlines. A casual serif design from the hands of Sumner Stone, ITC Stone Informal brings a traditional, yet casual appearance to the cover. The typeface also received an unusual treatment in which letters in different point sizes were combined for a moving effect. In XXL, magazine designers turned to ITC Edwardian Script for feature articles on rap artist D’Angelo. This elegant, flowing Spencerian script is used as a counter to the artist’s gritty, urban hymns. Click on each magazine cover to see more artwork. A leader in book publishing, the Little, Brown Company produces more than 100 new hardcover books each year. Little Brown designer John Fulbrook was looking for a geometric, futuristic typeface when he selected ITC Black Tulip for the cover of the book “Trek Navigator,” which contains reviews and ratings for all of the orignal Star Trek television shows. Fulbrook then turned to ITC’s Synchro Reversed for the cover of “Joystick Nation,” a book that chronicles the societal impact of video games. Synchro Reversed is a complimentary font that ships with Synchro. Click on either book cover to see a larger cover image. Or click on a link below to see a character showing of each typeface:

Cable television station A&E has produced a new ad campaign using ITC Blaze to promote their new television dramas, called the A&E Literary Collection. Featuring a rough edge and long descenders flowing to the left, ITC Blaze was perfect for their tagline: “Get Swept Away.” The calligraphic nature of the typeface and its aged appearance also fit well with the new dramas, which are set in the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries. Broadway. A fitting place to see ITC’s Balmoral typeface. Elegant and sophisticated, Balmoral was chosen for the lettering for the new Broadway musical, “High Society,” which is based on the movie musical of the same name and Cole Porter’s “The Philadelphia Story.” To coincide with the play’s release, there have been numerous print ads as well as a bus ad campaign. Balmoral is also used in all of the signage on New York’s St. James Theatre. Click on the link below to see a character showing:

ITC Rennie Mackintosh is the cornerstone of a new print ad campaign for a new collection of dual-tone nail lacquers from OPI. Appearing in fashion and beauty magazines, such as Allure, the new ads take advantage of the unique lowercase “o” in the font. Click on a link below to see a character showing of each weight:
