ITC Intro
ITC Intro is a study in contrasts. Its shapes and proportions are elegant and sophisticated, but there’s nothing slick or buttoned-up about this lovely, energetic script. According to Jana Nikolic, Intro’s designer, “the face is based on humanistic cursive lettering, but the final characters are cleaner.” Her intent, she says, was to give the feeling of “a modernized revival of old Czech masters’ designs.”
Intro’s letters are slightly condensed, with a delicate hand-drawn quality and a hint of “attitude.” This is not a typeface that lies quietly on the paper. It has verve and movement, as if the brush that drew it was just lifted from the page. One could almost imagine that the ink is still wet.
Intro abounds with distinctive character shapes, from the unusual tail of the lowercase ‘q’ to the baseline curve of the ‘l’ to the idiosyncratic ‘g.’ The dynamic and fluid capitals can also do double duty as initial letters. Combine them with an old style text face and the results will be striking.
Menus, invitations, headlines, even short blocks of copy – all are within the range of this unique typeface design.
